Therapy Thoughts for Monday: Give Yourself a Reward

Why do we love taking vacations? Why do we spend so much money to get away? Part of the reason is that vacation is an opportunity to think differently. We have new thoughts when we’re away from our normal routine and environment.

People who have campers have an extra challenge because the tendency is to pack their home-thoughts and take them along.

Is it possible to think new thoughts in an unchanged environment? Yes, it is possible, we just have to choose it.

What would happen if we started thinking of Monday as the reward day instead of Friday? The beginning of a new week is like opening a new jar of peanut butter and being the first one to dig into the perfect surface.

The habit of linking Monday with “Oh, no, not Monday!” kind of thoughts almost guarantees bummer events.

Reward thinking is a great way to make short term gains by setting small easy goals with a preset reward in mind. It’s much easier to do things we don’t want to do if we set a reward just beyond.
